July: Donate to our Clovelly Yarn Bomb in aid of Devon Air Ambulance Trust!

Blog by Ellie Jarvis:

If you visit Clovelly during the month of July you’ll discover yarn-bombed* areas of our picturesque fishing village, with knitted donkeys, seaside garlands, pom-poms, crocheted ‘cobble-cosies’ plus much more!  Co-ordinated by Clovelly Silk in conjunction with Clovelly Community Gardening Group, this will be the second time that Clovelly has been yarn bombed, with the help of people from all over the UK and abroad who are donating beautiful yarn samples.

I recently shared the Ideal Home Show ‘Super Theatre’ stage, with television personality and home-style consultant Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, giving craft demonstrations and advice on interior design. Laurence was only too happy to support the Clovelly Yarn Bomb and his knitting will have pride of place in a very special, secret feature of the Yarn Bomb this year.

This creative project brings our community together and embraces the much wider community of people who love Clovelly.  We are so lucky that Clovelly is a place which people across the world hold dear to their hearts and feel a special connection to the village. We are overwhelmed by the response so far.

Part of Clovelly's entry to the ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition, this unusual and colourful project is in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.  As a village which is difficult to access, residents are acutely aware of the invaluable work that the service provides. The Devon Air Ambulance helicopters are able to get to most of Devon within 10 minutes and the whole of Devon within 15".  It now costs £5.5million every year to keep Devon’s two Air Ambulances operational.

Our Clovelly Silk workshop will offer a centre-piece for some very special knitted work indeed. Not to be missed, the breathtakingly beautiful and inspiring knitted creations of Alison Murray will be on display at Clovelly Silk in the Craft Yard, which is situated next to the Donkey Stables.  Alison has worked tirelessly to inspire her team of local knitters, who have created awe-inspiring pieces which have travelled the UK and abroad, raising money for charity.

If you’d like to send a yarn sample and/or a monetary donation:

All knitted, crocheted and woven work needs to be submitted by July 1 and installations will be put together by our team of volunteers.  Please send yarn samples to Clovelly Silk, Clovelly, Bideford, EX39 5TL.
