Designed by Lady Feadora Gleichen, a cousin of Queen Victoria, this memorial was commissioned in 1901.  

Lady Gleichen was the first female member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.  Her statue of Artemis stands in Hyde Park, London and another of Florence Nightingale on London Road, Derby.
