Celebrate your Wedding at Clovelly

The most romantic venue in North Devon for your wedding.

From wooded cliffs far above the tiny harbour, a cobbled street winds down to the sea past cottages, flower bestrewn the summer long. Clovelly is an enchanting village of timeless beauty and has a picturesque choice of settings for a wedding day of wonderful memories.

The New Inn, in the heart of the village, has a wedding licence, so you can be married in the oak beamed Hamlyn Room and enjoy your reception there in a heart-warming village atmosphere.  The New Inn can cater for a seated reception of up to 30 guests.

On the other hand, what could be more romantic than to lead your guests down the cobbled street to the ancient harbour. Here there is an album filling selection of maritime settings for your wedding photographs.

The Red Lion, right on the quayside, is also licensed for wedding ceremonies and is a perfect venue for a larger wedding breakfast of around 50/60.

The two hotels offer 25 en-suite bedrooms and there are other accommodation options in the village.

Outdoor wedding venues:  We also offer two utterly romantic outdoor wedding venues on the cliff tops to the west of Clovelly village, The Wilderness Summerhouse and The Cabin.  The Terrazza at the Visitor Centre, with its panoramic view of Bideford Bay, is licensed as an emergency wet weather venue.

The Wilderland Summerhouse

Much use was made of local materials to restore this beautiful building, winner of a civic conservation award, which could not be set in a more romantic location with its view from the cliff top down to the Atlantic cove of Mouth Mill.  It can be reached by Land Rover.

The Cabin

This secluded and wildly romantic location is approached on foot across Clovelly Court parkland to a kissing gate, beyond which a short rhododendron tunnel leads to this restored C19th rustic shelter perched on the cliff top. It was built by Sir James Hamlyn Williams, a former owner of Clovelly.
Framed by ancient, gnarled oak trees, the view across Bideford Bay is simply stunning.

Marquee wedding receptions

For a wedding party of up to 150 guests, we offer marquee space on the Great Terrace of Clovelly Court, the ancestral home of the owners of Clovelly. From such a vantage point, the panoramic vista of Bideford Bay and beyond is simply breathtaking. The Terrace is a very short, tree-lined walk from the ancient parish church of “All Saints”.

"Our guests have all commented on how lovely the food was for our wedding dinner.  They also loved the accommodation, whether at the Red Lion or the New Inn.  You and your team did an outstanding job from the moment we first contacted you.  Nothing was ever too much trouble and we never felt that ours was just one of a series of weddings to be held there.  It always seemed that ours was the most important, due to the attention we received".

A pirate themed wedding took place at the New Inn. Mr. and Mrs. A of Oxford said they chose Clovelly as the “perfect place” to exchange their vows. Famed for its connection with smugglers it also tied in perfectly with their wedding theme.

"To all the wonderful New Inn staff.
Thank ye very kindly for making our wedding day so perfect.  We cannot speak highly enough of you all."

“Unique hotel with excellent service, magnificent scenery, steeped in history and tradition. - perfect for a wedding!”
The Red Lion Hotel is uniquely situated in one of the most picturesque villages in North Devon – a historic fishing village with old traditional cottages alongside cobbled streets. It made the perfect choice as a venue for our daughter’s wedding – a personalised ceremony, champagne served on the quayside, delicious outdoor buffet meal, evening entertainment in the oak-beamed bar, and hotel accommodation - all on one site, allowing the whole event to be relaxing and informal for all our wedding guests. The staff were, without exception, fantastic, friendly and extremely supportive, looking after our every need on the day.

The views from our bedroom were magnificent. As an early morning riser, I was able to sit at my bedroom window, sipping a cup of tea, and watch the sun rise up over the sea’s horizon, followed by the quiet activities of local fishermen going out on their trawlers.

A truly uplifting experience, I loved it all.

Carole of Bideford.

“Great Hotel in an amazing location”
We got married at the Red Lion on the 19th June 2010. We used the hotel for the Wedding, reception and accommodation that night.

It's a lovely hotel in an amazing location in beautiful North Devon. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful to the very end (thank you for everything Justin & Bea)

Each room is individual and has a stunning seaview to enjoy.

The hotel is what you would describe as small and quaint and perfectly in keeping with its surrounds, if you are looking for mobile phone reception, elevators and sky sports in the bar this is not the place for you!!!!!! If however you are not bothered by those things then you’ll find a little slice of heaven in north Devon.
