History of Clovelly
Originally the estate was owned by William the Conqueror, King of England, gifted to his wife and then had many royal associations until 1242 when first acquired by the Giffard family. Until the middle of the 19th century Clovelly was unknown to the outside world. It was partly as a result of Charles Kingsley’s ‘Westward Ho!’, set in and around the village, that visitors began to come.

Rain or Shine Theatre presents The Pickwick Papers
Follow the adventures of Samuel Pickwick and his three companions as they travel through South East England getting into mischief and embarrassing scrapes! This Dickens tale is a hilarious and light-hearted story which will be a great start to the open air theatre performances at Clovelly Court Gardens.
This performance will take place on the terraces by Clovelly Court Gardens, with the stunning backdrop of Bideford Bay and the Clovelly Estate. Bring a picnic and something to sit on!
