Things To Do
History of Clovelly
Originally the estate was owned by William the Conqueror, King of England, gifted to his wife and then had many royal associations until 1242 when first acquired by the Giffard family. Until the middle of the 19th century Clovelly was unknown to the outside world. It was partly as a result of Charles Kingsley’s ‘Westward Ho!’, set in and around the village, that visitors began to come.

Christmas lights in Clovelly
2nd December 2018 is a magical time at Clovelly. Starting at 3:30 pm, a local brass band leads the procession down to the harbour with festive Christmas carols sung by a local choir. There’ll be a hog roast, hot dogs, Christmas grog and other refreshments available at the Harbour and Lifeboat Station and Father Christmas will make a surprise visit. First World War Memorial
First World War, 1914-1918 The memorial on Mt. Pleasant was erected by Christine Hamlyn, owner and benefactress of Clovelly, in memory of the village men who lost their lives during the First World War and her nephew, The Hon. John N. Manners.
