Clovelly Silk Shop
Browse a range of gorgeous silks and dreamy accessories along with a selection of textiles from around the world. The shop was featured on ‘Kirstie and Phil’s Perfect Christmas’, broadcast on Channel 4.
This family-run business specialises in classic English textile design. Ann Jarvis, former head of the design studio at Liberty of London Prints, has a background steeped in classic design. Her husband, Bill, whom she met at art college, oversees the technical side of the silk-screen printing process, and her daughter Ellie joined the business after studying textile design at Central Saint Martins.
Rex Whistler’s Clovelly Toile de Jouy
Celebrated artist, illustrator and muralist Rex Whistler (1905-1944), was a frequent visitor to Clovelly Court and was commissioned by Christine Hamlyn to develop his sketches into a textile design in a beautiful Toile de Jouy style. You can buy this beautiful fabric exclusively from the Clovelly Silk Shop.
This charming textile design takes its name from the steep, traffic-free, cobbled street in Clovelly.
The street is traditionally called ‘Down-a-long’ when you walk down it, and ‘Up-a-long’ when you walk up it!
Create your own stunning devoré silk scarf. Courses can be booked by individuals and groups. You can also purchase a course voucher as a unique gift for friends and family.

Clovelly Pottery was first established in 1992 by the acclaimed potter, Clive Pearson. He is a skilful thrower with over thirty-five years of experience, training originally as a teacher at Bishop Otter College, Chichester, before starting a pottery in Welcombe, then Hartland.
All Clive’s pots are produced next to his home at Clovelly, and are hand stamped and dated.
On larger pieces Clive often scribes the weather conditions at the time of throwing.
Also at Clovelly Pottery, resident potter, Caroline Curtis, produces hand-thrown, slip-decorated earthenware pots in beautiful designs and colours. There is also a range of pottery from other local Devon and Cornish artists.
The workshop is open to visitors who may for a small fee make their own pot under supervision during the high season.
Do visit the pottery before you descend the cobbled street, as they are happy to look after any purchases until your return. If you use via the Landrover service, please ask the driver to drop you off at the ‘white railings’. It is only a short walk from there to the Pottery and then to the Visitor Centre car park.
The pottery is open most of the year, but during the summer months will usually open Monday to Saturday 10.30am to 5.30pm, and Sundays 11.00am to 5.00pm. Winter hours will vary, so please phone to check times if making a special journey.
