Vote for Cockwells – Clovelly’s ‘BESSIE’ – by 9th March!

Cockwells has been nominated for its two Classic Boat Awards.

The Classic Boat Awards celebrate the best newly-built boats as well as the restorations in the ‘wonderful world of traditional vessels and the people who float them.’

Dave Cockwell: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted twice in this prestigious industry awards scheme and hope that the public will support us by voting for the Twin Cabin Duchy 35 as well as Bessie.”  “These vessels showcase the breadth of our expertise from the artisan skills of the traditional shipwright to the style, seakeeping and technical innovation that we are renowned for at the luxury end of the market.”

Bessie, built in Looe, Cornwall, 1904, was originally a Falmouth working boat and started her life working the oyster beds of the Helford river.  In retirement she joined the keen local races for her type.

This classic, maritime heritage, Oyster boat, “BESSIE”, was magnificently restored with much effort by Cockwells Boats, Mylor and was sailed to Clovelly last August.
Clovelly plans to invite visitors to sail on her around Bideford Bay under competent skippers during the months from April to October each year.

Winners of the Classic Boat Awards 2020 will be announced in the May issue of Classic Boat magazine, to be published on 3rd April 2020.
