History of Clovelly
Originally the estate was owned by William the Conqueror, King of England, gifted to his wife and then had many royal associations until 1242 when first acquired by the Giffard family. Until the middle of the 19th century Clovelly was unknown to the outside world. It was partly as a result of Charles Kingsley’s ‘Westward Ho!’, set in and around the village, that visitors began to come.

The Harbour Restaurant has great views. There is much talk today days about the impact of food miles. However we can proudly talk about food feet (not miles ) as fresh fish and seafood are landed daily outside our door. We also use as much seasonal produce as possible and game from Clovelly estate. The gardens in season supply much of the salad and vegetables and we also served Clovelly apple juice at breakfast.
Menu
Menus change with the seasons and consequently feature the amazing produce we have on our doorstep. Seafood platters, wild Exmoor Venison and even Clovelly long horn Beef are all favourites . The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. We serve lunch 12-2.30 from the harbour bar takeaway menu daily. As it gets very busy with residence, booking is always advisable. If you are looking to spoil yourselves to pre-order lobster, please book with reception in advance of your arrival.
