History of Clovelly
Originally the estate was owned by William the Conqueror, King of England, gifted to his wife and then had many royal associations until 1242 when first acquired by the Giffard family. Until the middle of the 19th century Clovelly was unknown to the outside world. It was partly as a result of Charles Kingsley’s ‘Westward Ho!’, set in and around the village, that visitors began to come.

Seaweed Festival is held to promote seaweed for its immense health and nutritional benefits.
In a multitude of colours, textures, shapes and sizes, it is tasty, full of minerals, fibre without calories and is the best salt substitute.
Along the Quay we will have a surprising variety of dishes and stalls will be selling a range of seaweed products.
It is a very informative event, with activities suitable for all to enjoy. Craft activities and workshops with Washhouse Studios and Sciencedipity (make your own seaweed slime).
Adam Reeve, who forages local seaweed, will do a seaweed gel demonstration and foraging talk. Also there will be a cooking demonstration by Ellie and John from Ebbtides.
Plus live music and street entertainment throughout the day.
You will be amazed at the world of seaweed. Bring your own and ask the experts what is the best use for your particular selection.
Standard admission charges include all entertainment.
