“The village once owned by England’s first queen” – BBC Travel

We are extremely grateful with the BBC’s Travel section for writing their article, “The village once owned by England’s first queen”, where they describe the beauty of living in Clovelly. “One of the UK’s only privately owned villages, picturesque, pedestrian-only Clovelly has inspired numerous artists and writers, from JMW Turner to Charles Dickens.” The article explains the history of our village and the reason behind the entrance fee, as well as some other curiosities that make Clovelly such a special place! “The most beautiful seaside villages in the UK” – The Telegraph

We want to thank The Telegraph for including us in their article, “The most beautiful seaside villages in the UK”.

“Scattered up a hillside and clinging to a 400-foot cliff overlooking Bideford Bay, Clovelly has to be one of Devon’s most famous villages.

While donkeys used to be the main mode of transport, now they’re just used for children’s rides, so be prepared for a hike if you want to walk down to the seafront and back. If you fancy trying some of the freshly caught fish, head to the Red Lion Harbour Restaurant.”

We want to thank DevonLive for this article about the energy efficiency of our village: “Clovelly proves that even the most hard-to-treat properties can be insulated”.

Last month, Clovelly won the National Landlord of the Year award for Energy Efficiency run by the Energy Efficiency Association.

“The work to make Clovelly’s 120 listed cottages energy efficient included fitting loft insulation, sloping ceiling insulation, concealed draught-proofing and award-winning secondary glazing. Together these measures are estimated to save around 40 per cent of heat loss.”
